We are a reading school. Reading is an essential part of school life and everyone in school reads everyday

In Reception, children get off to a flying start and begin to learn how to read very quickly. As soon as they are ready, children are given phonetically decodable reading books so that they can apply  their blending and segmenting skills. It's so important that they are given lots of opportunity both at home and in school to practise their skills.

Children in KS1, Years 1 and 2 continue to read phonetically decodable books as they progress through the phonics scheme and become increasingly fluent.

In KS2, when children begin to use 'Accelerated Reader'. This programme allows children to read a vast range of books by different authors and reflecting different genres, carefully matched to their stage of development.

In Upper KS2, some children will follow 'Reading Plus' which aims to improve their fluency, their reading speed and their comprehension.

Throughout their time in school, all children are taught to read through regular reading practice and exploring quality texts in English and in other subjects.
