This week, we have been celebrating the religion of Judaism across our school. In Year 2, our focus was on the Shabbat meal that Jewish families celebrate every week. We learnt that Shabbat begins on Friday night where the house is cleaned and all the food is cooked. No electronics are used throughout Shabbat but the children are allowed sweets and treats! They lay the table with a white cloth and silver candle sticks, blessing the bread and wine. Shabbat is all about families spending time together, singing songs and playing games.
After learning about the Shabbat meal, we followed a recipe to make Challah bread. We really enjoyed using the ingredients and we all loved the taste of the bread! Some of us had seconds! We know that Shabbat is a special time for Jewish families and we could talk about our special times with our families.
