School Uniform

A School uniform plays an important part in building a sense of community among students, staff and parents as well as the local community. It contributes to a sense of pride when children are asked to represent their school in public, can support the mindset of a ‘working environment’ that helps children separate their home and school life and places children on a level playing field, reducing the pressure to wear the latest fashionable brands.

Parents/carers are asked to support our school uniform policy as follows:

Branded uniform items with the Sacred Heart badge can be purchased through the school office or Slaters School wear. However generic school uniform, which can be purchased from a number of retailers, also supports our school uniform policy.

Parents/carers can also enquire at the school office about our ‘ Preloved Uniform ‘ items available in school.

Please ensure that your child’s property is clearly marked with their name.

JEWELLERY, COSMETICS AND HAIR

Our school policy currently states that no jewellery is to be worn during sporting activities and this is still the case. Earrings pose a safety risk in all forms of sporting activity, therefore plasters covering earrings is not acceptable. Plastic invisible earrings that sit flat on the ear, can be worn all day and for all activities, (including sport).  These are readily available online.

No cosmetics should be worn including makeup and nail varnish. Please do not send your child  into school with any of the following items: lip balm, Vaseline, any type of cream (including sun lotion, antiseptic cream, anti-histamine cream or wipes)  Please bring such items to school office for safe keeping and distribution, due to allergies and intolerances of some pupils we have to protect all pupils .

Hairstyles should be modest and appropriate.  A modest hairstyle would be one that does not attract unusual attention or comment. Parents should ensure therefore, that ‘shavings’, colouring, ‘tracks’, gelling, and unusual hairstyles, etc be planned for holiday periods and not term time. Shoulder length or long hair should always be tied up with a dark coloured bobble.

In all matters related to dress code, including hairstyles, the decision of the Headteacher is final.
